The Research, Development and Extension Office of CAPSU conducted an onsite basic Geographic Information Training for its faculty researchers last November 9-10 at the Agri-aqua Technology Business Incubator, CAPSU Dayao, Roxas City.

The Vice President for RDE, Dr. Efren L. Linan, reached out to Mr. Ozzy Boy S. Nicopior and Mr. Ivan Marc H. Escamos of the University of the Philippines Los Baños who are experts in cartography, map designing, remote sensing, geospatial technologies, and GIS in order to deliver top-quality training sessions for the Quantum Geographic Information System (QGIS) open-source software.

The guest lecturers keenly discussed the history, functions, user interface, and features of the QGIS. They also individually guided the faculty researchers who were having a hard time with the processes of the topics.

Integration of Data (legends, political map, topography, etc) to the digital geographic containers along with its comprehensive arrangement, presentation, and ease-of-access is the core function of the GIS.

This will aid CAPSU’s faculty researchers in mapping out large-scale projects and researches, and in presenting their proposals to the external agencies using their QGIS outputs.
