Capiz State University’s Fisheries and Food Research Development Center (FFRDC) recently organized a Training Workshop on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for CAPSU RDE Centers Staff on October 11-13, 2023, at CAPSU Dayao Satellite College, Dayao, Roxas City.

The activity aimed to equip participants with practical GIS skills that enable them to work with GIS software, collect and manage spatial data, and create maps for better visualizations. The training was to broaden the knowledge of the centers in presenting their proposals and to utilize it in presenting their research data.

Mr. Rector John Latoza, University Research Associate II and Data Privacy Officer of the University, provided guidance throughout the training by sharing his expertise in GIS. With his guidance, the staff acquired practical skills and gained a deeper understanding of the application, enabling them to use the technology effectively in their respective fields and future researches. Also, the valuable GIS experience and knowledge of Mr. Ruel Olapane have significantly contributed to this comprehensive training experience, enriching the participants’ learning journey.

During the training, Dr. Leo Andrew B. Biclar, the Research Director, and the Center Directors were present during the workshop. Their attendance highlights the significance of the RDE’s unwavering commitment to advancing GIS and its pivotal role in research innovation.

Furthermore, Dr. Efren L. Linan, the Vice President for Research Development and Extension, graces the workshop as he delivers his message. He emphasizes the importance of the integration of GIS in research as a versatile tool for researchers to convey complex spatial information to a broad audience in their respective domains.
