The CAPSU Debate Team from CAPSU Roxas City Main Campus emerged as this year’s 1st runner-up of the Mic On: A Youth Discourse on Local Governance, a debate competition among various state universities and colleges (SUCs) and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) offices in Western Visayas.

The said contest was organized by the Department of the Interior and Local Government – Local Governance Regional Resource Center 6 (DILG-LGRRC 6) in partnership with the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Iloilo in celebration of the 2023 Local Government Code Month.

The debate was held via video conference and was watched through the official Facebook page of DILG Region 6 Western Visayas.

The debaters who represented CAPSU in the said competition were Ervi Kile Bulquerin, James Zedric Arancillo, Gian Paulo Matillano, Meljud Benecio, Diana Vacaro, and Angelica Anonoy, all from the College of Education of the Roxas City Main Campus.

In addition to the team’s achievement, James Zedric Arancillo was named as one of the best debaters of the semi-finals round.

The team was coached Mr. Rimark Camulo, College of Management (CM) faculty member, Dr. Jay Lord B. Asis, SSC Adviser, Dr. Joey B. Balatayo, COED faculty member, with support from CAPSU Roxas Supreme Student Council, the CAPSU Central and Roxas City Main Campus Administration, and DILG Capiz.
