The Intellectual Property Management Office recently conducted a Training Workshop on Patent Search, Patent Drafting, and Filing for CAPSU RDE Centers Staff last June 18-20, 2024, at CAPSU Technology Business Center, Dayao, Roxas City.
Dr. Efren L. Linan, Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension, in his welcome and opening message, encouraged the RDE Centers staff to familiarize and learn how to use the patent search tools, and to draft a patent application and see if it has potential for commercialization.
The training aimed to encourage the filing of the centers’ completed research projects for IP protection and, consequently, promote the commercialization of technology derived from research.
During the training session, Engr. Monalyn L. Oloroso, IPMO Chair of Burias Campus, shared her expertise on the Preparation of Technology Disclosure, Invention Spotting, and Patent Specification; Prof. Princess Lydia S. Fuentes, IPMO Chair of Dayao Satellite College, presented the Patent Information, Introduction to Claim Drafting, Writing Dependent and Independent Claim; and Engr. Marilyn L. Bernabe, DABEn Program Chair of the Burias Campus, provided an insightful Overview of Patent Search, Patent Search Tools, and Strategies. Their collective knowledge and experience ensured the workshop’s effectiveness and the participants’ enhanced understanding of the subject matter.
During the closing program, Prof. French A. Dampog, the Knowledge and Technology Transfer Division Chief (KTTD), emphasized the crucial role of protecting each center’s research innovations. He also stressed that innovation and IP protection would help the University commercialize the generated technologies from R&D and maintain its SUC level.
