Dr. Editha C. Alfon was reappointed President of Capiz State University for a second term of office by the BOR (Board of Regents) – the governing body of the University, through a majority decision following the double unanimous rating and recommendation by the Evaluation Committee (EC). This decision of reappointing Dr. Alfon is provided in RA 8292 Section 4.

The basis of Dr. Alfon’s reappointment was her outstanding performance as president of the university for four (4) years as evaluated by the Evaluation Committee chaired by Dr. Minda Formacion, Professor Emeritus UP Visayas. Other members of the committee were Dir. Maura Consolacion Cristobal, CHEDRO VI Regional Director; Dr. Tirsu Ronquillo, PASUC National President; Atty. Danny Valenzuela (private sector representive); and Engr. Rolly Degala, (academic sector representative).

The EC also visited the campuses in Sigma, Pontevedra, and Roxas City Main Campus in separate dates to validate her accomplishments over the last four years.

Under Dr. Alfon’s leadership, the University has made significant progress on a number of key priorities covering areas of instruction, research, extension, and production. ISO Certification, international mobility, infrastructure developments, numerous utility models and copyright, and various external research fundings from partner agencies like DA (Department of Agriculture), DOST-PCAARRD (Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development), NCAA (National Commission for Culture and the Arts), and DILG (Department of Interior and Local Government) were the highlights of her achievements which gained accolade of her performance as president during the interview with stakeholders. Remarkable awards were also spotted during her headship such as the National GAWAD KALASAG Winner (HEIs Category), Recognized University with Established Quality Management System Certified to ISO 9001:2015, Top 6- University with Most Number of AACCUP Accredited Programs, HEI with Excellent Gender and Development (GAD) Program, and SUC Level III.

“Her transparent and participatory leadership are the things we admired her most”, uttered by one of the Campus Administrators during the actual visit and interview conducted by the EC. Aside from possessing calm demeanor, Dr. Alfon was known to be an uncorrupt leader to her subordinates. It is one of her well-pointed characteristics that helped the committee in deciding for her reappointment aside from her notable performance as an academic leader, institution builder, resource mobilizer, and enabler.

To continue the international mobility both for students and faculty and to send some middle managers to Public Management Development Program are some of Dr. Alfon’s future plans for her second term of office. The plans are geared towards the university’s vision of achieving academic excellence delivering quality service to all.
