Capiz State University congratulates our cultural mappers and researchers for successfully presenting your research papers in “Kaangtanan: Celebrating Intersections across Western Visayas – The Cultural Mapping of Panay, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental Project Conference.”

The three-day event was held on October 23-25 at Grand Xing Imperial Hotel in Iloilo City.

The conference featured paper presentations, film screenings, and performances from across Western Visayas, all reflecting the theme of interconnectedness.

Two papers were presented by CAPSU scholars.

The first, “Traditional Knowledge Systems on Upland Fishing of the Indigenous Peoples in Capiz, Philippines” was researched by Dr. Leo Andrew B. Biclar, OIC Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension; Dr. Stephanie S. Pimentel, Fisheries & Food Research Development Center Director; Dr. Louis Placido F. Lachica, Social Science & Industrial Technology Research Center Director; Mr. Rector John A. Latoza, Head of the General Servicea Unit; Dr. Efren L. Linan, SUC President III; Mr. Roniel C. Cabading; and Mr. Ronald A. Almanon, the latter serving as the plenary presenter.

The second plenary presentation was titled, “Tagurabong: The Traditional Harvest Ritual Practices Of The Local Folks At Santa Ana, Tapaz, Capiz, Philippines” and was presented by Dr. Ronilo G. Berondo, Human Resource Training and Development Director.

Despite geographical distances, the event underscored the shared commitment to preserving and promoting the region’s cultural heritage, demonstrating that no separation could deter the proponents of this advocacy.
