Among the numerous academic institutions in our country, Capiz State University (CAPSU) has been selected to participate in the International Summer Symposium on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (ISS-UN-SDGs) to be held at the School of Applied Biological Science, Hiroshima University (HU), Japan, from September 10 to 16.

The ISS-UN-SDGs is organized by HU, one of the top 10 universities in Japan since 2008 and was overwhelmingly attended by various universities from around the globe. This symposium seeks to share the latest knowledge and technology from basic to advanced biosphere sciences, and to strengthen HU’s good relationships with other universities, specifically for educational advancement and international research exchange.

CAPSU is delighted to send a distinguished delegation to represent the institution on the global stage. Dr. John King N. Layos, a faculty member, along with Mr. Jolimar Amistad and Ms. Cheryl Jane Candelario, students from the College of Agriculture and Forestry (CAF) at CAPSU Burias Campus, will engage in a diverse array of activities and programs which include immersive lectures, enlightening study trips, access to state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, cultural immersion experiences, scholarship orientations, and more.

Dr. Layos has been invited to talk on SDG 15 of the Life on Land with the topic “The state of biodiversity of domestic animals in Southeast Asia.”

This international endeavor holds immense significance for CAPSU, aligning perfectly with the University’s commitment to internationalization. It represents a significant step forward in building enduring relationships and fostering collaboration with esteemed institutions worldwide.

As the CAPSU delegation embarks on this exciting journey to Japan, we extend our best wishes for their successful participation in the ISS-UN-SDGs, confident that they will return with invaluable experiences and knowledge to enrich our academic community.

The delegates together with Dr. Marien Laureto, Director for External Affairs and Linkages, convened a courtesy call with Dr. Editha C. Alfon, SUC President III, and Dr. Mary Ann B. Martelino, Vice President for External Affairs and Linkages, to share the news of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
