The CAPSU Main Campus Chorale (CMC) wowed students and teachers of the select schools in the Department of Education (DEPED) Roxas City as they performed Filipino classics in honor of stage legend and Capisnon talent Jovita Fuentes.
February is celebrated in the Philippines as the National Arts month. Capping this month-long celebration is the tribute to Jovita Fuentes, who gained prominence in Europe in the 1920s and 1930s as a standout oriental opera performer. For her contribution to Philippine culture and arts, she was awarded as National Artist for Music.
The Roxas City Government through Ang Panublion Museum organized a three-day musical caravan tribute for Jovita Fuentes, who also celebrated her 129th birthday on February 15. Dubbed as Alay Kay Maestra, the tribute caravan was first staged in 2023. Because of its resounding success, the Roxas City Government decided to renew its run for the second year.
The tribute caravan ran for three days and toured three secondary public schools in Roxas City: Don Ynocencio A. del Rosario Memorial School (DYDRNHS) on February 27; Cong. Ramon A. Arnaldo High School (CRAAHS) on February 28; and at Tanque National High School (TNHS) on February 29, respectively.
The tribute started with an introduction of the program by Ang Panublion Museum director Cheryl Anne del Rosario, followed by a short talk about the life and career of Jovita Fuentes by Mr. George Christian F. Acevedo, College Librarian III and Director for Public Relations and Publication.
The Roxas City Youth Rondalla and world-class pianist Dr. Clement Acevedo of the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Music also performed in the events. This was followed by the CMC, who performed “Paraiso,” “Mama Mia,” “Kapag Tumibok Ang Puso” and “Kay Ganda Ng Ating Musika” the latter accompanied by Dr. Acevedo.
Their performance stunned the students, teachers, and school heads with their peerless talent, earning them the cheers and applause of those present. Just Jovita Fuentes, the CMC, is one world-class Capisnon act.
