True to its thrust and commitment to not only produce quality research and extension outputs but to disseminate and extend the same to the stakeholders and communities, the Capiz State University Research, Development and Extension Office officially opens today, December 4, the Pagtukib 2023 with theme, “Strengthening the Innovation Ecosystem through Research and Extension Initiatives” at CAPSU Main Campus Roxas City.
The opening program was participated by the different sectors such as farmers, industry, academe and local government units.
In his welcome remarks, Dr. Efren L. Linan, Vice-President for Research, Development and Extension warmly welcomed the mparticipants for the first day of the event. In his message, Dr. Linan,stressed on strengthening the integration of the two functions of research and extension in order to maximize the utilization of resources as well as open and broaden spaces for multi and interdisciplinary discoursing and theorizing, thus creating a greater impact on its partner communities. He also encouraged the participants, especially the farmers to seize the opportunity to learn new knowledge, gain technical skills and develop partnerships with the local government units, academe and industry sector for future collaborations.On the other hand, in her opening remarks, Dr. Editha C. Alfon, University President, takes pride on the multitudinous accomplishments of the RDE and University as a whole in the field of research and extension. Dr. Alfon also assured the farmers and entrepreneurs that CAPSU is always open to help them through the RDE office.
Engr. Rowen B. Gelonga, Director of DOST VI and a member of the Board of Regents of CAPSU, served as the Keynote Speaker of the program. Director Gelonga was represented by the Capiz Province Science and Technology Office Director, Ms. Juafe M. Abareles who encouraged the farmers and small scale entrepreneur to adapt the technology offered to them by CAPSU and other government agencies. She also told them not to be afraid in moving a step forward to mechanization as it will surely make the agricultural sector more competitive thus bringing much profit to the farmer- adaptors . “… The road to technological advancements is not easy. But it is not impossible.” she said. Abareles pointed out that results of these efforts should be assessed, documented and disseminated for the purposes of theory-building. This praxis would ensure that development work will always be relevant and responsive to the current situation of the country.
After the opening program, the Booth of the Campuses and Satellite Colleges were launched. Each offers the matured technologies of researches conducted by the faculty. Moreover, Pagpanalawsaw or Research Utilization Forum was conducted. Research papers from the different research centers, namely: Social Science Research Development Center, Livestock Research Development Center, Crop Science Research Development Center, and Food and Fisheries Research Development Center, were presented in the forum. The forum provides opportunities for participants to integrate development theories and practices from research, validate their effectiveness and relevance in the field, and serve the needs of individuals and groups at the grassroots level. It also serves as a venue for systematic dissemination of the learning gained from direct practice to other academics, students, and practitioners.
