To formalize its tech adoption partnership, the Capiz State University (CAPSU) and the Negros-based RU Foundry and Machine Shop Corporation signed a Technology Licensing Agreement (TLA) on September 5, 2024 at the CAPSU Central Administration Board Room. This agreement, a historic first for CAPSU, aims to commercialize the machines invented by CAPSU’s faculty tech generators and students for the usage of the community.

Dr. Efren C. Linan, Vice President for Research, Development and Extension, and the newly-elected university president welcomed RU Foundry and the attendees to the event. In his message, Dr. Linan expressed his optimism in this partnership as this will serve as avenue to boost the desire of the faculty members to do more researches that are relevant to the university’s target stakeholders. Dr. Linan encouraged the faculty to continue doing award-winning researches and extension activities, hoping that it will acquire not only regional but national awards.

Dr. Editha C. Alfon, SUC President III, recognized the accomplishment of the faculty members who invented the machines that lead to this historic event. Dr. Alfon hoped that with thousands of faculty members in the CAPSU system, more will follow the footsteps of these successful inventors. Dr. Alfon thanked the RU Foundry for their trust and for converting these inventions as resource for the faculty and the university as a whole.

The machines covered in the TLA are the Twining Machine invented by Engr. Marilyn L. Bernabe, Engr. Monalyn L. Oloroso, Engr. Julito A. Albaladejo, Ms. Michelle L. Ms. Pelago expressed the appreciation of Engr. Gelonga and the regional office on the efforts made by CAPSU and RU Foundry in order to arrive in this signing of agreement, “this agreement is not only a document but a symbol of progress, a testament on what can be achieved when academe and industry talks together with a shared vision,” Ms. Pelago said in her message.

For years now, CAPSU, through the Intellectual Property Management Office, has been an active agent and promoter of the protection of the intellectual property of its faculty members and staff. It has taken further steps in their mandate by working with partner agencies and enterprises to promote and commercialize these technologies.
