The Capiz State University (CAPSU) has taken a significant step in advancing intellectual property (IP) management by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with key partner agencies during the Intellectual Property (IP) Convention 2024, held at Sam’s 21 Hotel, Diversion Road, Mandurriao, Iloilo City, on September 27.
The event brought together IP professionals, innovators, and stakeholders to exchange insights on the latest trends, best practices, and challenges in intellectual property management.
CAPSU President Efren L. Linan led the delegation, alongside Dr. Leo Biclar, Officer-in-Charge of Research, Development, and Extension (RDE), and Mr. Mark Glenn F. Villamor, Director of the Intellectual Property Management Office (IPMO).
A key highlight of the convention was the launch of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines’ (IPOPHL) three-year Regional Development Plan on Intellectual Property (RDP-IP). This initiative is designed to strengthen IP awareness, protection, and commercialization across the region, particularly focusing on academic institutions and industries.
Following the launch, the IPOPHL, together with the RDC VI – RDIIC, and various state universities and colleges (SUCs) and higher education institutions (HEIs) from the Western Visayas region, formalized their collaboration by signing the MOU.
As part of the event, Mr. French A. Dampog, CAPSU-IPMO Chief of Knowledge and Technology Transfer Division (KTTD), participated as a panelist in a discussion that explored the challenges and successes experienced by this university and IPOPHL’s Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) members. The session provided valuable insights into how these institutions translate research into valuable IP assets, manage IP portfolios, and collaborate with industry partners to maximize commercialization opportunities. | with information from Mr. French A Dampog.
