The Capiz State University (CAPSU) has officially commenced this year’s University Sportsfest and Conference, held and hosted by CAPSU Burias Campus, with the theme, “One CAPSU, One Capiz: Promoting Peace, Inclusivity, and Well-Being through Sports, Culture, and the Arts.”
Athletes, coaches, campus administrators, college directors, sports coordinators, and faculty members from CAPSU’s three campuses and six satellite colleges participated in the opening parade, marching from the Administration Building to the host campus’ open field.
Dr. Rodyard B. Madiclum, CAPSU Burias Campus Administrator, conveyed an inspiring message.
“This year’s University Sportsfest and Conference is not just about competition; it is a celebration of sportsmanship, camaraderie, and the spirit of healthy competition. As we gather here today, we come together not as competitors but as ambassadors of our respective campuses, representing the values of teamwork, dedication, and perseverance,” he remarked, urging all participants to uphold these principles throughout the event.
Addressing the competing participants, “I encourage all the participants to compete with passion, determination, and a sense of pride in representing your campus. Cherish the memories created on the field, forge new friendships, and inspire one another to reach greater heights,” Dr. Madiclum said, encouraging the delegates to create memorable moments and hoping for a safe display of talents, performances, and conduct of sports games.
Kristine Jill F. Llegue, a Regional State Colleges and Universities Alethic Association (RSCUAA) athlete from the host campus, led the ceremonial lighting of the Flame of Sportsmanship, joined by her fellow regional athletes.
Following the lighting of the cauldron, the campus administrators, college satellite directors, and sports coordinators raised their team banners.
CAPSU President Dr. Efren L. Linan, delivered an uplifting message.
“We are here to celebrate more than just athletic competition; we reaffirm our commitment to unity, mutual respect, and the holistic development of every member of our CAPSU family. Sports, as all we know, is more than a test of physical prowess — it is a powerful tool for fostering understanding and camaraderie, bridging differences, and promoting values that strengthen the social fabric of our communities,” Dr. Linan said, emphasizing the importance of this event.
He further underscored, “In a world that often highlights our differences, we have the responsibility — and the privilege — to showcase the harmony and inclusivity that define us as one CAPSU and as proud members of this community. This event is an opportunity for us to connect, to support one another, and to inspire a future grounded in peace and well-being.”
“To all our athletes, may your spirit of fair play and sportsmanship guide you in every match. To our organizers, coaches, and supporters, thank you for your dedication and commitment to making this event possible. And to everyone, may we carry the lessons of this meet — lessons of unity, peace, and well-being. Beyond these grounds and into our daily lives. Let us cheer each other, push our limits, and above all, strengthen the bonds that make as One CAPSU, One CAPIZ,” Dr. Linan concluded, expressing his gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the event and reminding everyone of the principles they must uphold.
Dr. Linan then officially declared the University Sportsfest and Conference 2024 open.
