A well-attended webinar on Research Ethics and Challenges facing Science and Technology in the Philippines was held on May 20, 2021 which was attended by hundreds of CAPSU faculty members, researchers, graduate and undergraduate students.

Dr. Lawrence M. Liao of the Graduate School of Integrated Sciences for Life at Hiroshima University was the guest lecturer in the said webinar. He emphasized the role of quality publication and widest dissemination of research results to all beneficiaries and end-users to make one’s research relevant during these challenging times. According to him, “Considering the growing competitive atmosphere under which most researchers operate, the need for strict compliance with ethical standards must be followed at all times.” Citing many challenges such as ethical and R&D infrastructure and policies, the lecture also centered on the critical role of government in generously providing funds and logistical support to researchers. The lecture was capped by an active Q&A session wherein several webinar participants asked many stimulating questions about the topic.

This webinar was initiated mainly by the office of the CAPSU VP for External Affairs and Linkages headed by Dr. Mary Ann B. Martelino who gave the opening remarks. CAPSU President Dr. Editha C. Alfon gave her inspiring message, while CAPSU VP for Research, Development and Extension Dr. Efren L. Linan delivered the closing remarks. Dr. Louis Placido F. Lachica, the Director of the Social Science and Industrial Technology Research Development Center served as the emcee.

Mr. John King N. Layos, instructor at the CapSU College of Agriculture and Forestry who is on study leave at Hiroshima University, presented the speaker with a Certificate of Recognition signed by the CapSU President.
