Delegates from the four campuses of Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU), Zamboanga Del Norte, visited the Capiz State University (CAPSU) for a benchmarking activity to explore and learn about the best practices of the University’s Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO), May 21, 2024.

The delegation was led by Dr. Victor B. Bernido, Director of JRMSU’s DRRMO along with Dr. Leonel Hidalgo from Katipunan Campus, Mr. Arjay Alcoverez from Siocon Campus and Mr. Vincent A. Naglit from Dipolog Campus.

CAPSU President Dr. Editha C. Alfon led the welcoming of the guests alongside with Dr. Arnel Van V. Aleligay, DRRMO Director; Dr. Elmer M. Albaladejo, NSTP Director; Dr. Rossandrew B. Villaruel, University Sports Director; Dr. Rosel Dionio, Quality Assurance Director; Dr. Jaylord Asis, CAPSU Roxas City Main Campus – Supreme Student Council (SSC) National Adviser; and staff from CAPSU-DRRMO and NSTP Office.

In her message, Dr. Alfon assured that the delegation will learn a lot from this visit in order to achieve the goals of JRMSU-UDRRMO. She also took the opportunity to recognize the hard work of CAPSU’s DRRMO personnel in terms of preparation and implementation of various programs in the field of DRRM.

After the inception meeting, the delegation was accompanied by Dr. Aleligay and Dr. Albaladejo to the Capiz Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRMMO), Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRMMO) of the Municipality of Panit-an, and at CAPSU Burias Campus DRMMO.

At Capiz PDRMMO, Ms. Judy Grace C. Pelaez, LDRRMO IV, presented and highlighted various activities and programs that showed the strong partnership between the Capiz PDRMMO and CAPSU-DRRMO to resilience-building and humanitarian assistance.

Likewise, in the Municipality of Panit-an, Mayor Katherine Dequiña-Belo warmly welcomed the delegates to the Municipal DRRMO headquarters. The notable activities and initiatives of the Panit-an MDRRMO were presented by Dr. Mark Jay Dumol, LDRMMO V.

At CAPSU Burias Campus, Dr. Rodyard B. Madiclum, Campus Administrator welcomed the delegation. Prof. Ben Francis A. Osias, NSTP Coordinator introduced the CAPSU Burias DRRRMO Cares – a first in the university system where students are encouraged to volunteer and assist in times of disaster. Videos of different activities of the campus’ DRRMO were presented.

On behalf of the JRMSU delegation, Dr. Bernido expressed his profound appreciation to CAPSU. They were impressed and overwhelmed with the information and learnings that they acquired from the meetings and on-site visits.

CAPSU is a Hall of Famer for the Gawad KALASAG (KAlamidad at Sakuna LAbanan, Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan) national awards conferred by the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC).
