The Capiz State University (CAPSU) once again showcased the various research-based products from the campuses and satellite colleges in Pagtukib 2024 – the much awaited annual gathering of the university’s leading researchers, IPMO specialists and extension service movers. The two-day event organized by the Research, Development and Extension (RDE) Office was held on December 19 and 20, 2024 at the Dadivas Auditorium or Roxas City Main Campus.

Dr. Leo Andrew B. Biclar, the Vice President for RDE led the welcoming of the attendees to the first day of the event. In his welcoming remarks, Dr. Biclar expressed his gratitude to all the stakeholders for their efforts and contribution in materializing the University’s mission, vision, and its research and community empowerment goals. “…Halin sa CAPSU, madamu guid nga salamat sa inyo tanan. Through your unwavering support and cooperation, we have witnessed the emergence of groundbreaking research, sustainable and transformative extension programs, viable livelihood sources and innovative solutions that addresses the pressing societal challenges that threatens our community’s sustainability.”, Dr. Biclar said.

Dr. Efren L. Linan, CAPSU SUC President III, delivered an inspirational message to all the attendees. He highlighted the regional and national level awards received by the various technologies introduced by the university. Dr. Linan also shared his plans of strengthening business incubator units of the university, particularly the ATBI in Dayao and ABI in Burias, as well as the gearing towards globalization of CAPSU. He also took pride in announcing the increase of funding gained from the external partners this year as it signifies the growing trust and confidence in the research works of the university.

Before ending his message, the President emphasized on the importance of having a strong innovation system as it gains the trust of external partners and attracts funding from the government, private sector and other philanthropic organizations. “By embracing of its facets of innovation ecosystem, CAPSU can position itself as a forward thinking institution that is adaptable to change, focused on social impact and committed to preparing students for future challenges. These holistic approach can lead to a new era of higher education that prioritizes innovation, collaboration and community engagement. Pag naubra naton ni sya, we always shout that CAPSU will rise, Capiz will rise!”, Dr. Linan declared.

A keynote address was delivered by Ms. Nieva D. Dela Torre, owner of EbangZ Mushroom Farm and one of CAPSULE TBI incubatee. She shared her inspiring story, from her humble beginnings up to being an award winning entrepreneur that she is today. Ms. Nieva expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the university for the unwavering support given to her. “CAPSU ATBI has been more than a partner, it has been a cornerstone of my success.’, she said. “Your support has amplified our reach allowing us to connect with broader market and audiences. As I move forward, I carry your lesson and support with me, striving to be a role model for women entrepreneurs and farmers to dream of achieving something greater.”, Ms. Dela Torre said.

After the opening program, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held to officially open the booth from the nine campuses. It was presided by Dr. Susan O. Dangan, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Salvacion J. Legaspi, Vice President for External Affairs, Dr. Mary Ann G. Campos and Ms. Nieva D. Dela Torre. It was followed by a Technology Pitching participated by faculty members from the nine campuses, and a seminar entitled “Cultivating Innovators; Shaping Minds for the Future”, delivered by Engr. Monalyn L. Oloroso, the IPMO Chair of Burias Campus.

Day two started with the Investiture Ceremony for the University President Dr. Efren L. Linan in the morning. In the afternoon, the event began with a signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Letter of Intent to Partner with Agusan del Sur College of Agriculture and Technology, University of Negros-Occidental-Recoletos and Kasetsart University of Thailand, at the Central Administration Board Room. Attended by the University President and Key Officials, and other distinguished guests, the partnership marks a significant step towards global networking and international engagement. Dr. Linan also led the oath-taking of the newly-appointed University Vice Presidents, Campus Administrators and Satellite College Directors, and Department Directors.

An awarding ceremony was also conducted in the second day, recognizing the faculty and staff who rendered years of service at their respective RDE offices. Recognitions were also given to the university’s partner agencies, funding agencies and incubatees. The most awaited major awards of the event were taken home by the following: Best Booth – Dayao Satellite College; Best Technology Pitcher- Prof. Princess Lydia S. Fuentes, Dayao Satellite College; RDE Logo Design Contest Winner – Dr. Maryneth B. Barrios, Joshua B. Gaspar and Jsah Myrl H. Humpay, Dumarao Satellite College; Best Video Documentary for Extension – Pontevedra Campus; Documentary Most Promising Research Chair – Dr. Maryneth B. Barrios of Dumarao Campus; Most Promising Extension Chair – Dr. Joesan D. Borres of Pilar Campus; Most Promising IPMO Chair – Engr. Monalyn L. Oloroso, Burias Campus; Most Promising Campus in Research Services – Burias Campus; Most Promising Campus in Extension Services – Pilar Satellite College; Most Promising Campus in IP Management and Services – Burias Campus; Extensionist of the Year – Dr. Warren S. Celoso of Roxas City Main Campus; and the Researcher of the Year whom received by Dr. Maryneth B. Barrios of Dumarao Satellite College.

Dr. Stephanie S. Pimentel, the newly appointed University Research Director, wrapped-up the two-day event. In her closing remarks, Dr. Pimentel thanked all the university researchers, innovators and students for their relentless pursuit of knowledge and to the partners and stakeholders for their support. “As we move forward, let us carry the energy and the inspiration from Pagtukib 2024. Together, let’s innovate boldly, work together, and pursue excellence relentlessly. Our mission is to build a better university and a brighter future for our communities.”, Dr. Pimentel said.
