A team of six students from Capiz State University (CAPSU) secured 2nd place in the Scholars Technopreneurship Training Program (STTP) Region VI Demo Day, held on November 24, 2024, at the Iloilo Convention Center in Iloilo City. The event was organized by the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI), in partnership with Leave a Nest Philippines, Inc., and DOST Regional Office VI.
The CAPSU team is composed of Kent Vincent Gardose, Joanna Marie Capundan, Jhon Ariel Villaruel, and Renzo Dela Cruz from CAPSU Roxas City Main Campus; Jewwelly Hansel Joy Degoma from CAPSU Burias Campus; and Rogin L. Ubamos from CAPSU Pilar Satellite College. They impressed the judges with their innovative project, ShellDone Solutions, which transforms oyster shell waste into innovative, sustainable products, addressing rising heat index while promoting eco-friendly living.
They were mentored by Ms. Mia C. Pielago, Senior Science Research Specialist at Capiz Provincial Science and Technology Office and Mr. Ronrick S. Arayata, Assistant Manager of Human Development Division at Leave a Nest Philippines, Inc.
Earning a top spot, they were awarded with cash prize worth Php 40,000 from the DOST-SEI and DOST Region VI, received the UPV Coastline 5023 Award that grants them one-year complimentary incubation program at the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV), and recognized as one of the recipients of the Flores & Ofrin Award which offers free legal assistance for trademark registration from The Law Office of Flores & Ofrin.
Through #STTPR6DemoDay, the scholars were equipped with vital knowledge and skills in technopreneurship, emphasizing practical knowledge in launching, managing, and sustaining a business.
